1.outset  n．开始，开端

2.constant  adj.坚定的：坚贞的；永恒的；经常的，不断的
【记】词根记忆：con(始终)+stant(站，立)--始终站立--永恒的
【例】Breathing, the action of the pulse, growth, decay, the change of day and night, as well as the constant flow of physical action-these all testify to the fundamental role that movement plays in our lives.

4.persuade   v．说服，劝服，使…相信
【例】Most fashion magazines or TV advertisements try to persuade us that we should dress in a certain way or behave in a certain manner.

【派】persuasion（n．劝服，说服力；信念，信仰）；persuasive(adj.有说服能力的，劝诱的)
【辨】persuade, convince二者都有“说服”的意思。persuade指用感情、个人理由等主观因素去劝服某人；convince强调用客观证据、事实等使某人确信并被说服。

5.ford  n.浅滩 v．涉水，涉过

6.anxious  adj.忧虑的，不安的：渴望的，切望的

7.await  v．等待

8.extenor   adj.外部的，外来的，外表的；对外的，外交的；户外用的以，外表，外部
【记】词根记忆：ex(出)+ter(=terr，土地)+ior（…的）--离开土地的--外来的
【例】It's difficult to judge a person by his exterior.
很难依据外表来评判一个人。
【辨】exterior, external, outside这三个词都有“外面的”之意，exterior指物体表面或其范围之外的区域；external指寿在于某物之外的部分；outside指物体表面或外在部分，含义最广。
